a buddy of mine, just got this error, with the bottom right corner of the ring flashing. so from what i've read this is most likely a problem with the av cord itself or the scaler chip. he has tried using a hdmi cord instead and it still comes up with error. is there anyway of fixing this? would it be a case of a cracked solder, like with the traditional rrod and cpu and gpu? or is it something a little more advance. i'm pretty much self taught in this area, so my knowledge is somewhat limited. any help appreciated.
From what I've read it seems like a possible fix for this would be to send it to someone who has a reflow table.
There are people on ebay who offer the service. Just search for
"reflow xbox 360" and you will see what I'm talking about.
Unless someone knows of a fix beyond trying to use a heatgun or oven it might be your best bet.
ya.. currently i've been searching for someone locally to do mine, as i also have the rrod, but its the more common gpu error. i'm just kinda wary of sending my xbox or my friends to someone random. but i'm tired of fixing mine every 4 months, and i'm not really sure as doing the scaler chip in the same manner.
for my friends i was thinking of purchasing a warranty sticker, but we'll probably just get a refurbished one with a lite-on.
but mine has too much modded, to send it in, as i got a tailmoon fan, x-clamp fix and the 360 blaster ne. so i guess i will continue my search for someone with a reflow station locally, or take someone up on the offer to send it to them. thanks for your advice.
ps. if i was to send mine in, with just the x-clamp fix, would they notice, considering most people i talked to, didn't even get thier original console back?
This is the same problem i had, and i ended up sending it in w/ a modded drive and getting it back. And as far as i know it is a solder issue just like the rrod w/the cpu and the gpu. I did read somewhere though someone having fixed it w/a penny trick like that used on memory chips. They said they used 10 penny's to force the ana/hana chip against the board (i think this is the scalar chip you are talking about).
But yea otherwise i'm pretty sure it needs re-flowed for a permanent fix.
so since my original post. i realized my friends xbox had been a victim to the sound-loss issue with the hdmi port. he had found a jenky fix for it, by starting the xbox w/o the harddrive and then inserting it after it started up. now this would take a few tries sometimes... so i guess what i'm wondering, seeing that this was an update issue... is microsoft somewhat responsible? now i know he could have just used the av cord, but there is a noticable difference in quality and should anyone be expected to use a downgraded option, when this issue, was directly linked to nxe update?
as others have suggested i will probably be getting both his and mine's motherboard reworked... but i would think unless a update comes out to fix this issue, his hdmi will still be soundless.

p.s. i pretty sure it was the "jenky fix" that sent his into the e74 error
for those interested. i fixed my friends box that had the e74 error. and i also fixed the hdmi soundloss issue. i just did the x-clamp replacement(lawdawg method) and it now works perfectly... of course only time will tell how permanent of a solution this is, seeing as i've had to do mine twice in the last year.
so hopefully this helps any one with the same issue.
if you have trouble finding the tut for the method i used, pls pm me and i will post it, but it seems to be the most common fix, so it shouldn't be hard to find
