I'm looking for a new CPU for 3d rendering puposes but I am stumped on what to get.

money really isn't an issue
(unless the CPU is over $550)

any help would be nice

best bet would be either to overclock a core 2 quad, such as a Q9550, or get a Core i7 system with a 940 CPU.

Cool thx

but . . . Can I get a core i7 for an am2 socket cpu chipset?

if you can, can you send me a link to the website.

Also what else would help with 3d rendering (make it faster)?
like memory, GPU, maybe even software.

for a 3d program I use 3ds max

No, i7 CPUs are strictly for socket B (LGA1366), and motherboards for that socket cost an absolute fortune, which is why I don't recommend them.

Using 3dSmax, have a look at the RTSQuare plugin by GPU-Tech. This is meant to use the graphics card to speed up rendering, something which 3DSMax doesn't already do by itself.
