I played team death match and I was sniping. At the end of the round my user name was high-lighted blue and I had a shield emblem with 2 crossed rifles in it. What does this mean? I read that this means that I was the host of the match but I knew when it happened to me I was not hosting. I know this because when we started another match, who ever was hosting it ended it.

doesn't that pop up when you die? next time you die hit select before you respawn and see if it's there.

No thats a purple heart.

It might mean mvp possibly, I've seen it before but haven't bothered to figure out what exactly it is.

Was you playing with friends in the game? Because when I play it seems like if I have a party of 3 or 4 friends we all have that shield and no one else does. It might just show who is your friends in the game.

Whenever you see blue names in-game, that means those players are in your party.

The first time I had it I was not in a party. I dove in online multi player on my own as I always do. I read somewhere that another player added me to his squad during the game? And for me to be invited to a party do I not need to be on a users friends list?
Purple hearts icon BTW means you died. They used the purple heart instead of dog tags.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that is what shows up if you are in someone's squad. Just pause the game while playing and look on the righthand side, it will show you whether or not you are in a squad.
