pc dvdplayer wont play some new dvds help plzzz

My pc dvdplayer has started having problems playing some of my dvds. Most of my older dvds play no problem but when i try and play something recent ie 'harry Potter' the disc just keeps spinning, the light flashes, and it makes a horrible rasping sound. I have cleaned the lens and I think I have every codec decoder etc under the sun installed but still no joy.

Any thoughts or help on this would be very very much appreciated.

1. Check ASPI
2. Is this an LG (or similar) branded dvd? Some drives cant read DVD+R(W) discs. :-)
