skimming through .MKV videos crashes my player

for some reason, when ever I try to "fast foward" (you know, dragging the progress bar to get up to a certain point) .mkv files I get errors that cause the player to close. the movies play fine and dont give me any problems other than that and it seems to effect only .mkv files at random times. I also will get a bunch of FFDSHOW icons on my task bar after I close the player.

is there any way I can pinpoint the problem? I use FFDSHOW codec only for AAC audio and H.264 video. I have Xvid installed for use with .avi. and use MPC to play all them. I never had problems before... but Im on a fresh installation of Windows now. This happens on my other PC as well. I know it cant be the files themselves, I tried a bunch of different .mkv videos and like I said, they play through fine.
