Long time reader, first time poster.
Let me first just say thanks to everyone who contributes here, you guys are great, and have helped me a million times over. Lets see if we can make it a million and one.
I have recently been messing around with USBadvance, and SMS quite a bit so I went out and picked up a 2gb flash dive to try some things with, after formatting and taking all the necessary, I booted up the ps2 and it worked like a charm, for all my ps2-usb needs, but as I said it was only 2gb. This got me thinking, and seeings as how I have two Ipod's just laying around (8gb nano, 30gb video) I decided to try to get them to work in the same manner as the flash drive.
Of course I had to format to FAT32, thus losing any data on the Ipod, this didn't bother me as it is winter, and I haven't been using mypods much, after the format apple software kicked in at the first disconnect of the usb and it re inserted the necessary Ipod system files, making the ipod functional again, but proving that there was likely more than one partition on the Ipod, well the file system was still FAT32 so I tried it out, UlaunchELF surprisingly detected it and launched, SMS, USBadvance, Super Mario War, as well as a few other ELF's I tried, But once SMS loaded and I launched the USB, it just returned alot of random file names and junk data, nothing launchable, and USBadvance detected no USB device.
So it was back to square one, so I got to searching and found a tutorial on making my computer treat my ipod as a Local Disk instead of a removable disk, once done my Ipod showed up as a hard drive, so I launched Disk Management in windows, and checked out the Ipod, there surely was two partitions, well one large user partition and 90 megs of "Unallocated space" I was guessing that this was where the files were being kept that "soft restored" the Ipod when I formatted, so I deleted all partitions and reformatted all the space as one FAT32 drive.
After doing this I disconnected, and surely it tried to fix the file system but could do nothing, so it just says "Please use Itunes to restore" after this I threw a few AVI's on it (when hooked up it just works like it is in disk mode) then I hooked up on the PS2 and tried it out again, once again Ulaunch read it and booted things off of it just fine, then I tried SMS, and finally YES! SMS READ THE IPOD! I launched a multitude of AVI's that all worked great!
Now the final test and the reason for all my ramble. USBadvance.
Booted fine from Ulaunch from the Ipod, but when USBadvance loads it once again says "NO DEVICE!" but when the Ipod is disconnected it freezes, so it surely is reading something? I tried all of this on both Ipods as well as everything else I can think of, I can use the Ipods on every USB program other than USBadvance, which was really the reason for all my messing around, the need of a bigger usb device.
So my conclusion is this: Could it be the USB IRX's that USBadvance is using? It is obviously using internal USB IRX's that I cannot change, does anyone know of a way to change the IRX it is using? As I am almost sure this is the problem with USBadvance and Ipods.
Sorry for any lack of info, I'm sick of typing.
Thanks for reading.

Hello there and welcome to Afterdawn
You have everything right for USBadvance, but there can only be one partition on the drive.
USBAdvance won't work otherwise.

Thank you for the warm welcome, and I know, like I said I removed both partitions and reformatted them both as one NTFS partition which I then formatted to FAT32, via the USBextreme dos utility, and now it is all one solid partition but I still can't get USBadvance to read it, any ideas? I really think it has something to do with the USB irx's USBadvance is using, can anyone confirm/deny this?

Oh sorry, I missed that part when reading.
This site here may help, check the section under IPOD and follow the directions there on how to format etc.

Actually that was the first tutorial I followed and I went back over it with both Ipod's probably five times, and never got it to work, got the same method to work with a flash drive though, to rule out error on my part.
After all of that is when I started trying different things trying to get it to work, and as of now I am stumped. It all comes back to the usb irx's that usbadvance is using im nearly sure. I am just not sure if there is anything I can do to change it.

How are you booting USBadvance? If your using a modchip you need to disable "macrovision fix" for UsbAdvance to work.
If not I am not sure what the problem could be, as I know others have used Ipods.

No, I am not using a chip, I use FMCB, and I have now repeated the process with a ps2 fat, and a ps2 slim, both using FMCB, and using 2 different Ipod's on them, the 8 gig nano that uses flash memory, and the 30 gig video with an actual hard drive. And so far no luck!

Well you could try using other usb irx files and see if that will work.
I know when I used MyPS2 program, I would have to put this usbd.irx file in a folder called SYS-CONF (all caps) on the memory card. You can try this one as well.
download.
Perhaps its the generation of Ipod your using that may be different. Hard to say.
This thread here says the same as the other link I gave you, but they use Swap Magic to load UsbAdvance
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/289253
It could be a fmcb issue also. Hard to say.

I agree with you, as I am stumped with the exact same problem: USBAdvance detects small USB drive, but not the iPod (hard disk model). It has to be some limitation of how USBAdvance handles different USB storage devices.
The tutorial at
http://versatile1.wordpress.com/2008/01/...f-usb-with-ps2/
...is totally INACCURATE. Down in the comments for that tutorial, the author admits that he just pasted the word "iPod" and assumed the information would apply. As many people found out the hard way, it does not apply to hard disk iPod's (such as Video and Classic, generations 5 and onwards).
