My bro-in-law gave me his old 1gb pro duo and i found these files under

PSP\GAME\UPDATE

1.) 500.PBP
2.) DL.PBP
3.) EBOOT.PBP
4.) PUPB.PBP
5.) u235.PRX

Well, #1 seems like an firmware update (5.00 maybe???) and #3 can be anything (games, apps, homebrew). As for the rest, I'm not sure.

You know what, I was re-looking it over and I realize that's the custom firmware update folder. It has got to be the 5.00 m33 firmware otherwise the official 5.00 firmware wouldn't be placed in that same folder.

If #1 is the custom firmware update then which one is the official firmware?

im about to mod my psp for the first time. i live in the middle of nowhere so i still have dial up. and if i have the official with the update i dont have to download those which saves me a few hours.

This is just my guess, but I don't believe any of those would be the official update. Normally when downloaded the official update file is listed as update.pbp.

you are right Gr3m is it just a custom firmware. Because if it is an official firmware you can just delete it, because you can go to your network update. If its only the official update. Because in the network update it is much easier and safer than the manual one.... But warning your psp's firmware will be locked. you can't just downgrade it just like that. there is some sort of pin code or locked that only technicians know how to unlock. In our country (philippines) the cost of downgrading is 500Php...

But if you want to do it manually, you can go into this link... it is a much higher upgrade and is still working. Just follow the instructions carefully and your psp will not be bricked.It means it will be broken and only technicians know hot to fix it. Wish I could help.

Okay i decided to look at the file size and then start to download the ofw 5.00. Its file size is about 25.8 mbs on the download size. i looked in the PSP\GAME\UPDATE folder that i have saved onto my pc and found this file 500.PBP which is 25.8 mbs. is it safe to say that this is ofw 5.00?

BTW im following this guide [url=http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-downgrade-your-psp-upgrade-to-a-custom-firmware-part-two/][/url] is this a good guide to follow? or is their a better one out there?
