How do you update starview the box. all the stations are gone. iv tried following the links but im useless with this stuff. if anyone has the time to write it out step by step it would be greatly appreciated.

The RS232 is actually a null modem cable. Do NOT buy a standard RS232 cable ... null modem is the one you will need - they look the same but don't act the same when used.

Go to your local electronics shop like Maplin and ask them for a null modem cable

It looks like this (colour is usually grey though)

You'll also need a USB to Serial adapter as well as the null modem cable since you are using a laptop ... same place to buy

Maplin order codes are,

L71BT - null modem cable
ZP43W - USB to serial adapter

thanks for all the help, but have just seen willo1962 post(post 3) and i think i have the starview 2 the box. so will i still need the null modem cable and the usb to serial adaptor?

Yes, the box may differ but the equipment you need to update it is the same
