Are there any issues with the 3.4E update relating to playing backup games? I am to assume this update also renders the Homebrew channel useless like the previous update?

Theres no issues playing backup games on 3.4

Wrong and wrong. Neither firmware 3.3 or 3.4 did anything to already installed copies of the homebrew channel at all. They did both temporarily make it harder to install the channel on a wii, but neither managed to block it for good.
3.4 did block the twilight hack and make homebrew channel impossible to install until the hack was fixed. And it blocked the installation of wad files until a cIOS patch was released to fix that.
3.3 also temporarily blocked the twilight hack as well as blocking the installer disk for homebrew channel, but once the twilight hack was patched it was again possible to install it.
