I've been trying to burn a couple of different movies to DVD-R using my Lite-On LDW-851S. They burn OK but my Sanyo TS570 DVD player refuses to play them. I've tried the following:
1. Updated the firmware on my Lite-On to the latest version.
2. Tried two different films (in ready to burn format, i.e. vob, ifo files, etc) There isn't a 'video_ts.vob', is this needed?
3. Uninstalled Nero 6 and installed Nero 5.5.10.42
4. Burned the DVD-R's using UDF/ISO instead of te DVD-Video template in Nero.
5. Used IFOEdit to recreate the IFO's. This worked slightly better in as much as my DVD player recognised it as a DVD (instead of "No Play") but it still wouldn't play :(
Could it be the media? I've succesfully written 3 DVD-R's using Buulkpaq Orange (Princo dye) but using my own DVD-R's, Infiniti (OptoDisc) they never seem to play in my Sanyo.
I've run out of ideas so I thought I'd ask for any advice on what I can try next.

The copies that won't work in your Sanyo - have you tried them in other set-top players?

First, STOP changing things so much -
# 2. Create a folder and name it VIDEO_TS (written just like that in CAPs). Place all of your ifo, bup, VOB files in that.
# 3. Nothing wrong with Nero 6. The directions I'm including will work on both Nero 5 and Nero 6. (I'd like to see you with Nero 6 because it's a good program.
# 4. Follow the directions below and burn using DVD Video.
# 5. Nothing wrong with using IFOEdit, it will create your VIDEO _TS folder for you.
IMPORTANT - I can?t underscore the importance of using good media - I recommend Ritek G04 or Verbatim -
Cheap discs can ?skip,? ?freeze,? or plain just not play !!! Cheap = dumb move !
Wondering what program you're using to rip your DVD's. If I could talk you into using DVDShrink (FREE) - it works hand-in-hand with Nero 6 (behind the scenes) to burn your DVD "automatically". A very good program, is DVDShrink.
Directions for burning your VIDEO_TS folder to DVD :-)
Do not use Nero Wizard.
When you open Nero Burning ROM, you will be at the ?New Compilation? window. Directly under the title ?New Compilation? is a choice block to choose either DVD or CD, choose DVD. Directly under that click on the DVD Video Icon. Then click ?New? in the upper right corner of that screen, NOT the main screen.
You now are in the DVD Video window. In the left screen, click VIDEO_TS. In the File Browser screen, 3rd from the left, trace your path to the VIDEO_TS folder, the one you made using IFOEdit, holding all of your files and click on that folder. All of your VIDEO_TS files are now opened in the right screen. Click on the top file, hold down the ?Shift? key and then click the bottom file thereby hi-lighting the entire column of files. Click and (holding the left mouse button down) drag the entire column of files to the open screen, second from the left.
Now click the icon on the task bar that shows a match on a disc, and then click ?OK? and now ? ?Burn Baby, Burn !?

mickz - Gonna borrow a Bulkpaq Orange that worked before to make sure it's not the films.
Nephilim - Have tried them in the DVD player in the bedroom as well, no joy, they only work on PC!
ScubaPete - Hi, thanks for your lengthy reply :) If I was ripping the DVD's myself I would probably use DVDShrink, *****removed********
Can I use IFOEdit (or another program) to check that the ifo files that are there already are valid? How do I get IFOEdit to create my VIDEO_TS folder.
Gonna try the other media at lunchtime (in 3 hours) and I'll report back how I got on. Fingers crossed.
I did read on the http://www.lordsmurf.com that the Optodisc dye is one of the better ones and the Princo dye is not so hot (although this HAS wordked!!). I suppose there are so many variables that what works for one won't necessarily work for another.

Well, I tried the Bulkpaq Orange one again and it obviously is lower quality as it failed :(
I got the dreaded Session Fixation Error in Nero when writing the Lead-Out.
Where do I go from here? The media I'm currently using must be fairly decent quality as they never fail when writing, it's just they won't play in my standalone DVD player :(

My workmate has just tried to play the discs that I burned on his LG DVD player and they didn't work, some message about checking the region code (his DVD player is region free!). He tried them in his step-daughters cheapo DVD player and they played :(
He then tried to burn a movie to one of my discs and it worked fine. He used DVDXCopy Platinum to burn, I'm using Nero. So by process of elimination, it can either be my drive or Nero?
