I have purchaced a psp with the above firmware from craigslist that I now see that has been modded. I have modded the original xbox via softmod so I was familiar with that. However this is brand new to me and all the reading about the different firmwares and slim or fat when to use pandoras battery or not, all of this is giving me a freaking headache to read. I am pretty intelligent, however have never even picked up a psp b4 yesterday.
The memory card is only 32 megs...is this a magic memory card and if so whats the significance of a magic memory card? if I want to back up my own games and play them how does that work when the memory is 32megs and games and movies are more like a gig? There are so many guides as to how to back up or mod your system but I feel like an idiot because I still do not understand after days of reading.
Questions you might answer for me...
1. should I update to 5.00 m33? I have it but says it wont fit on the memory card.
2. Can I remove the 32mb card and replace it with an 8gb that is on sale today for $40? It is this card http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/p...051_true_SEARCH is san disk and is not HD or anything.
3. If I can replace it how do I copy the game from the disc once I connect USB? I have Nero and DVD decrypter as well as Qwix and a few other softwares.
4. Are movies the same? I have DVDFAB 5.02 that claims to make psp9s
5. Is downloading PS1 games and playing them on the psp legal and if so do I need an emulator as with xbox (psxbox) Those games usually froze on my xbox but I miss games like Final Fantasy Tactics.
6. Should I not use the internet with the modded psp? Will is mess it up or ban me like with "xbox live".
7. Are there any cool Apps. like the XBMC (Xbox Media Center) or Dongle-free DVD player that work on the PSP.
8. Just please give me some does and donts with this system.

Hi, first off you need to get yourself a bigger ms. I would go for a 4gig as there are qiute a few issues with 8gig cards and i would also upgrade the firmware of the psp so you can play the newer games. As for games you can backup your games using a program called UMDGEN or download them from the net, look here http://www.pspiso.com/ You will also find all kinds of apps and emulators there. Movies need to be converted to mp4, as for using the internet with psp its fine you will not get banned like the xbox360. You can also dl themes. CTF themes are the best coz there is no chance of bricking your psp but you need a plugin called cxmb, you must use the right version of cxmb for your firmware and the right themes that are made for the right version of cxmb. Hope that covers it all!!

I actually found a file that has 145 isos and I downloaded like 22 of them or 8gb. I just need to see if i can just drag and drop on the memory or if I have to get an eboot for each one...still confusing when all Ive dealt with is Xbox softmods.

Relax, PSPs are the easiest things in the world when it comes to "backup" games.
The old 1.50 firmware (The last official firmware that Sony let run unsign code) needed a special loader to boot games from the memory stick, but with custom firmware, this is no longer needed, as the creator of these custom firmwares has effectively built this loader in.
All you have to do is get whichever games you want to play (In .iso or .cso form) and place them in the ISO folder on your memory stick (When you get your memory stick, format it using the PSP, and it will create all the right folders for you). You can then run any of these games straight from the "Game" menu.

Sn0man, that link says recovery 1.41... is that the 5.00 m33-4 cfw? I already downloaded an installer package that you just double click while the psp is hooked to the usb (pc) but like I said it says it can not finish probably because memory is full. My wife did pick up the 8gb card for me today while she was out, so like I said Ill probably take it back for 2 4gb cards.

Yeh mate just connect psp upto pc there will be a PSP folder go into that and thyere will be a GAME folder, Just drag the recovery folder into there, all files are already in the recovery folder, then disconnect psp and goto game on the first screen and run the recovery and just follow instructions, you will need a bigger card, Merry Christmas!!!!!!!
