I'm doing the exact same thing I did to mod an MS25, except I'm turning it off before I select it, then turning it on a few seconds later.
Should I keep trying with different timings?
And how long does it take from when I turn it on to when it starts dumping?
(I'm using iPrep)

And if anyone wants to suggest an easier method, please do.
Right now, I'm using iPrep to prepare a flash drive for my nForce4 motherboard, then unplugging the hard drive, my 360 is plugged into the motherboard the entire time in the primary/master slot.

Then I boot up iPrep, y, dSam blah blah blah, any key, then I turn it off, select the drive, then turn it on at set intervals later.

First of all mate, you need at VIA Sata raid card to do a MS28 successfully, I have never tried it straight off the MOBO. Then a older version of Iprep works well version 0.062 does the trick.

I don't know if it helps, but I flashed a MS28 drive for my friend just the other day and my motherboard uses the NF4 chipset. I got all stuck during the dosflash and I used this guide I found to get it working.

Maybe it will help or maybe your already tried everything in there.

I used a NF4 chipset on the motherboard (DFI Lanparty UT SLI-D) and the newest version of iPrep out there.

this might be stupid, but you are following textbook's method step by step?

I modded my ms28 following it and it worked without a problem

Does this method work with the newer versions of iPrep? Because I'm using a version that prompts me with commands like dSam and whatnot, I've never used the commands outlined in that thread.

The version of iPrep that I have is iPrep 101 v008 Pro. I did not use any d/fSam commands or the mktflash command. After I created my bootable USB and booted from it, the only command I ran was "dosflash" to read the original firmware. I "patched" that firmare back in windows then flashed it back with dosflash again.

The only difference I experienced between a dosflash of an MS25 drive and a MS28 drive was having to power the MS28 off and on in the middle of running the dosflash program.
