Im totally new to wii hacking.My wii has never been hooked up to the net it is still ver 2.0 do i need update this first.I might start playing online so im wondering if i should update.

There is a minimum firmware level you need to get the homebrew channel working. I'm not sure exactly which firmware it is but I'm pretty sure its after 2.0

Use mario kart to update to 3.2 and run your hacks and homebrew installers from there.
