DVD X Rescue, Hang time?

Does anyone out there have some trouble with the DVD X Rescue software. Mine will hang up sometimes when i put in a disk. I come back in a few hours and still have an hour glass with no results to review. I am assuming that the disk is so bad that the software can't get across it. The software needs a little tweaking to tell the user that "no chance" so I don't wear out my dvd-r. Sometimes it takes 3-4days running to complete a repair. Is this common?
