Blu-ray price cuts hurt OEM manufacturers

According to industry sources in Taiwan, OEM Blu-ray manufacturers have been hit with "seriously stagnant sales" due to Sony, Samsung and Sharp's decision to drop prices of standalone Blu-ray players to under $200 USD.

That mean OEM got to drop there price lower....100 or 150 dollars.Name brand sells.

Frankly,I don't really care about PLAYERS...I am more interested in when the Blue Ray BURNERS prices will drop.
That and the blank media for it.

A company i never heard of vs a brand name company for the same price...
its not a hard decision at all.
joebloe12 you should care about the players as it directly affects the burner prices and blank media for it...but most pirates dont see the whole picture if they dont benefit from it directly.

Personally brand names don't mean **** to me. Taking TV's for example most of the screens are all produced from the same factory in Tiwana. Could most ot the readers be built in the same factory?
Brand v non-brand doesn't rele make sense to me, its all about value for money, and frankly a brand name is worthless to me.

Sorry, but I think you are wrong.The players and burners are TWO totally seperate drives.
I have never heard of one affecting the other, unless you mean one that is made by the same company such as Sony for example. Even then, prices for players had DROPPED and burners have not.
SoI don't think they are as related as you make it out to be.

I'm sorry, but when it coms to electronics, name brand does matter in my purchasing decision.
Go with some ghetto brand mp3 player, or go with something reptuable like Zune or iPod?
Would you buy a no-name brand car when you can buy a better japanese car for roughly the same price?
I've gotten burnt before using Durabrand electronics, when I should have paid a few bucks more for the name brand item.
Durabrand products sucks!!!!

Durabrand is a brand name.
OEM is a cut down (not good as the original)version to lower prices for mass purchases by that OEM.
Example take a Creative Audigy 2ZS when these came out they where in the 200 dollar range,at this price gateway could not afford to put them in there computer's. Gateway then goes to Creative say's hey we want to buy bulk but cant afford full price. Solution, Creative strips support for DTS and DD decoding. you now have a 50 dollar Soundblaster Gateway Charges 70 dollars for.

Name brand matters and you do get what you pay for...
A $300 samsung bluray player is going to look better, load faster, and have more features than a $125 magnavox...
Also, take a Sony or Samsung LCD panel of the same size, and put it next to a Vizio LCD panel of the same size. If you can't see the difference, you dont need to be getting HD anyways ;)

Picked up a BDPS350 on Boxing Day for $220. Just hope that prices on burners and discs would drop too.

Picked up the same player with a package deal on a TV. I've seen off brand Blu-Ray players load and eject discs faster!
The quality in that player may be better than the others I've seen but it's hooked up to an older 40" Samsung LCD 1080i so I can't see any difference from this and offbrand.
DVD players and offbrands, I've seen that the cheapest DVD Players such as the $20 Coby ones play any reigon DVDs and the Sony/Panasonic/Samsung and all expensive ones are limited to NTSC DVDs.

I just got a blue ray burner for x-mas. want to back up some of my BD movies. can anyone suggest a website that offers the cheapest price for blue ray media and what format should i get to backup my movies. i know there are different formats BD-R? BD-RE??
I went to bestbuy and cheapest one they have was one disk for $26 - ouch! I am used to paying .50 for single layer DVD, a price shocker for sure.
