Some of my backed up dvd's have the same picture and sound as the original dvd, others have the same picture but no sound at all. Before I make the backup I have no subtitles checked and only the 1st english checked. I am doing every dvd the same way so why am I having this problem?

Hi,
could you please tell us your method of backing up movies (complete details)?
From what you have given, all I can say is , something is not right.

I'm sorry I don't know why I put "download dvd shrink" in my 2nd post. I am using DVD Shrink and just backing up the main movie on the DVD. If I convert it over to mpeg and play it on WMP it works fine and if I play the mpeg on my PS3 I get sound, but if I just leave it as an vob and play it on the PS3 I get no sound. I've tried this on 3 different movies, I am not using the whole movie to test the audio out as that would take a long time, I'm using 20-30sec.

Are you saying that you convert it to MPEG prior to using DVD Shrink or after processing with Shrink? How are you deciding what audio stream to keep when processing with shrink?

no I mean after I run DVD shrink if I convert it over to MPEG then I have picture and sound. If I leave it as a VOB I get good picture, but no sound. I sound like an idiot, but I didn't know you could select a different audio stream. Or are you refering to the list where you can check what languages and/or commentaries you want? If you're talking about that I leave the 1st one checked.

Don't worry, you do not sound like an idiot. I was mainly curious if the problem could be with Shrink maybe removing the wrong audio stream, yes I was referring to the list where you can check and uncheck, but if you are converting after processing with Shrink and the audio is fine then that doesn't appear to be the problem. (wow what a long sentence) Anyway, I seen no mention of burning to disk? Are you burning the files or are you streaming to your ps3? If burning please post what program and media you are using.

Yes I'm just streaming them using Nero mediahome 4. I have also tried to put them on a jump drive then plug it into the PS3, but it does the same thing.

Okay I am not 100% sure on this as my ps3 experience is limited, but to start with: If you are streaming then your HDD has to be formatted to FAT32. This also means that it will not support files greater than 4gb in size. Could this possibly be the problem? I am mainly thinking out loud here, this may already be well known to you.
Edit: In the midst of searching for an answer to your question, I found the other thread you had started which includes the same discussion. Reading that, it appears that I am wrong in regards to streaming files larger than 4gb. Also you may get better help if you stick to one thread.
