XBOX freezing when playing FLV ...

i just downloaded a video using the realplayer recorder thing
the outcome of the file is an flv file
when i put the cd in .. which i burnt the video to
and go into xbmc to play it
theres a message
opening file
libavformat file format detected
-----------------------
after that the xbox just freezes.. and i have to reboot
is there a way to fix this ... or xbmc just cant play flv

It doesn't like the format at all.. trouble is that realplayer thing. It tends to pack the files full of drm so you can only play them on the device you made them on. I suppose you could try converting it to a proper avi format because what it likely is isn't actually flv but rmvb in a wrapper... and I know xbmc has trouble with that.

I just happen to have a linux script that converts flv files to avi (eldest has an ipod so i had been hunting around for a conversion program, wasn't willing to use the many spam-ridden programs that are aplenty on google and everywhere else. If you have access to a linux machine i'll post the info for you..

you can run ffmpeg from a dos window too.. it's easier to work in the same directory .. saves a load of typing.. It's one of my party tricks in the shop with odd camcorder captures ;)

Nice one, i didn't notice that you could do it in windows too, showing eldest now, she'll be able to convert them for herself.

I usually just save videos off youtube via www.keepvid.com and play them via MPC you see.
