Ok..so im new to all this stuff.
Ive been reading on here about updating to this version and that version.

outside of using a different region game, is there any other reasaon to update the wii firmware or is it the modchip firmware you update ? (if you have one of course)

Modchip firmwares rarely need to be updated anymore. You are most likely reading about updating the wii's firmware. And I'm not sure if you misspoke or misunderstood but if you're using a game from a different region you DONT want to let it run any updates.
