I have a slim PS2 and it is modified with Infinity V1.38.
Its onlu been used a few times, now when I insert a backup or a original DVD, the ps2 turns on for a few seconds then goes back into standby mode.
I can access the ifininty menu and have burn a CD-R to upgrade the software to V1.93 this boots and works (I see a new infinity logo on bootup), but I still have the problem in the ps2 turning back into standby mode. Can anyone help? Thanks
is this a genuine infinity chip, and where did you get it installed, loads of infinity clones out there have issues when upgrade or the settings are changed in the infinity menu.
Yes i`ve opened the case and had a look at the chip. It seems to be a offical Infinity chip (as the firmware upgrade worked ok) and it compares to the offical photos online. I`ve kinda come to the conclusion that the DVD side of the laser is broken. Luckly I can still boot from the CD side of the laser.
Now comes my next question, I have a spare IDE hard drive and usb caddy. I can boot a burned CD. From googling I believe you can use a memory card to boot a USB drive? is this possible and can someone point me in the direction of a guide?
If cd's are working but not dvds then its probably the laser. As for a usb flash drive, you can load homebrew from it using software like swapmagic, which comes as both dvd and cd format, or you could use hd advance with your external usb hard drive and play games directly off from there, but you need to copy the games to the drive via the ps2, and if your ps2 isnt reading dvd's intially, then its of no use, laser are quite cheap nowadays, might aswell as buy a new one.
