Bricking Wii using Softmod

Has anyone managed to brick the wii using nothing but the softmod?

All my games have worked so far as I am using NTSC Wii and NTSC iso's but I wanted to try some PAL discs and was a little leary of trying it. I dont want to ruin my system.

Also, is it safe to play games on the internet? I dont want to configure the internet so far because I am scared Nintendo will try to update my system or that it will be asking me every time I boot up the wii that I need to update something

softmod doesn't install updates anyway, so out-of-region ones are safe.
i wouldn't install mario kart channel etc tho
