New at this--first time try to rip a dvd and make a vcd. Everything was going fine until I watched the movie and noticed the video is about 20 secs ahead of the audio. Looks like I put together a foreign movie but, a little worse. I used Smart Ripper to rip the movie. Next, I used dvd2avi. Finally, I used TMPGEnc to encode the MPEG file. I tried to backtrack and figure out where I messed up but no luck. Can you tell me where I might have gone wrong? Everything else worked fine. Just the video/audio matching is giving me a problem. Thanks for your help.

PS

I am able to play the files(vts_02_1 through vts_02_4) with no problem using PowerDVD. The sound and the video are in sync. However, when I try to play the MPEG file (finished product), the voice and the video are out of sync. Thanks again for any help to correct this problem.

Is the audio out of sync even beginning of the movie and does it get worse (more ahead) towards the end?

When I went back to look at the video I noticed the audio/video sync did get progressively worse as the MPEG file played on. In the beginning, audio/video was only out of sync about 20 seconds; however, at the end, it was out of sync more than 3 minutes. Do you have an idea of how to fix this and where I went wrong. Thanks again.

I would guess that you're using the wrong framerate -- your video is probably in NTSCFilm format and you've used NTSC template for encoding -> correct fps should be 23.97 and you've used 29.97. See the DVD2AVI's information box and check the fps and the video source (NTSC or FILM or PAL) -- if it really is FILM, use NTSCFilm template when encoding with TMPGEnc.

I went back to look at the info on the DVD2AVI tool. It says "Aspect Ratio-16:9, Frame Rate-29.970 fps, Video Type-Film, Frame Type-Progressive." The Movie is Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles. I tried different template settings in the TMPGEnc tool including {VideoCD (NTSCFilm).mcf} and {VideoCD (NTSC).mcf}. I even tried {VideoCD (PAL).mcf} I only encoded the video/audio for about 10 minutes in each template to see if it worked (didn't want to wait another 6 hours to find out it didn't work. I had no luck. The audio/video is still out of sync while using the different frame rates. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help.

is the WAV audio generated by DVD2AVI much longer than the original film length? if so, you may be doing something wrong in DVD2AVI.

One very lucky thing for me: I've never gotten an out-of-sync vcd movie when using FlaskMpeg with the built-in BBMpeg plugin. Sync is always bang-on, even though the very same dvd was WAY out of whack when creating an .avi.

Just a thought, in case you wanted to switch programs.
