So I'm probably the dumbest kid on the block who hasn't been able to burn a single backup disk successfully. I already have working backups I got from somewhere and want to backup working disks for future use if these get damaged. I'm a techie so the steps from extracting with Imgburn and burning it at 6X are done precisely. For some reason though the recommended speed is 2.4X or 4X, the burner burns at a minimum of 6X no matter what lower speed I choose.

From Wii guru "DJXP" the best burner for this is Pioneer 111D but this is discontinued. Has anyone tried Pioneer 115D?

I have already gone through a long list of media and presently I have Taiyo Yuden DVD-R Made in Japan which I believe is one of the best for backups.

I'm using my Plextor 760A but though the disk is recognized and launches now (With other disk brands it would not even recognize the disk), now it fails after 1-2 minutes into the game.

So here is the question - Have you tried the following current Pioneer drives (Preferably 115D)to burn a Wii and how is your success rate?

Any burner is fine for burning wii games. Even my old $15 lite-on drive (bought at a time when most burners were around $40) burned very nicely so long as I was using good media. I always use Verbatum when I can, and I havent seen any difference between +R and -R but many will insist that they get better results with -R so you might want to try that.

Penguin, that's what I've been told too but my experience is otherwise. Plextor 760A has failed every backup I have burnt.
I'm presently using Taiyo Yuden DVD-R

I suppose its possible that you managed to find a drive model that is bad for wii backups. But I've personally used at least 9 different DVD burners from 5 different manufacturers over the years without any problems. And I know many others who have used nearly every other conceivable brand and model, again without any other problems.

I think that if theres a problem with your drive its more likely your specific drive rather than the model you're using.

I was using a toshiba burner, I forget the model, but it gave intermittent results, lots of caosters. I tried an Asus burner and have had no problems. But, it may not have been the burner as some cpu boards don't like imgburn. My Asus is an SATA drive and the newest nVidia SATA drivers screw up Imgburn so it cannot finalize the disc and I get a voltage fault error, same with my BD-drive. I use an add-on SATA card with the Asus drive and have no problems.

I havent seen the need to switch to an SATA DVD drive yet as it really doesn't have any effect on performance. Bluray drives will likely see a nice boost from switching to SATA but I dont have the money or need for one of them yet.

But the model 115D specified in the original post is an IDE so thats not the problem. The only time I've seen one specific drive give a large number of coasters was one drive I had some time ago that was rather old and wearing out. Half the disks it burned were coasters, reguardless of if they were wii games or movies or just plain data disks.

I read something about the 115D not being able to do bitsetting. Is that going to affext the Wii backup burning?
