so i just got a wii not to long ago, i didnt know about homebrew at the time so i updated to 3.4, i then learned about homebrew and learned that (at the moment) i sorta screwed myself.. i then thought wow ok that sucks

so after some research i came across this guide:
hllp://www.wiihacks.com/faq-guides-tutorials/7199-3-1-3-4-twilight-downgrade-starfall-gammatutorial.html (replace hllp with http)

so i downgraded to version 2.2U (yea the tutorial says 3.2, but i didnt see 3.2 on the list for downgrade so i just went back to 2.2)

anyway the problem now is that, (since my backup launcher isnt working, im fixing it tmr) whenever i try to play an original game, the normal old way it asks me to do a system update (Even when im not online..) and im just wondering what version this will take me too, and if its gonna brick my wii or anything like that?

Of course the games are asking to run updates, you rolled the wii back to a firmware over a year and a half old. Any game released since then will likely not be able to run on that firmware and will automatically update the wii to whatever was the current firmware when the game came out.

Firmware 2.2 is so old now that alot of homebrew wont even run on it, which might be your problem with the backup loader.

And just for the record you dont have to downgrade to run homebrew, the backup loader or trucha-signed disks anymore.

but you do need to downgrade to install the homebrew at first, then from that point on its okay to upgrade?

cuz i know the current twilight hack only allows you to launch install hombrew one time, then every time your wii shuts off you have to reinstall it.. so now that its installed, are you saying that if i update back to 3.4 itll stay installed?

Alright, you're suffering the same terminology confusion that alot of newbies have. I think this will clear things up a bit. The twilight hack never 'installs'. The hack is a save file that is simply copied from the SD card to the wii's internal memory. This is different than something like the homebrew channel installer, which runs a program that actually does install the homebrew channel.

The twilight hack for firmware 3.4 only works once then is deleted, yes. But you only have to run it that one time. Once the homebrew channel is installed you never need the twilight hack again. Any homebrew can be run from the homebrew channel, no twilight hack needed.

And as both the twilight hack and homebrew channel installer are compatible with 3.4, you didnt need to run the downgrader in the first place.

I should also add that that the most recent twilight hack version is ONLY for 3.4 and attempting to run it on an earlier firmware will not work. So if you're trying to do that it could be where you're messing up.

Edit: Found a good guide here http://www.wiiguide.co.cc/

Ok, well i popped in a game i have, and it updated me to 3.2, then i took my sd card to a friends place (who has 3.3) and copied his SD card exactly onto mine (took all files off his, wiped mine and made a perfect copy) we both completly have the same sd card now, only diffrence between us is im running 3.2 and hes running 3.3, and the backup launcher STILL wont work, i get a wierd error that i cant even read, its writing overtop of other writing and its all jumbled, only word i can make out is DVD...

can anyone help me? should i try just clearing my sd card and uninstalling homebrew and going from scratch? theres also a bunch of other aps on the card now, like wad manager and stuff.. and theres this one thing that says i need to install it to get backup loader to run.. i run it and it dosent work, so then i read and it said if i get an error i should try uninstalling a certain cios, so i go to wad-manager and look.. and i cant find it

im really confused with this stuff... any help on what i should do?

The wad installer only will uninstall wads that you have still on the SD card in the wads folder. To remove an ios that you dont still have the wad for you need to use the any title deleter, available here http://wiibrew.org/wiki/AnyTitle_Deleter

Just make sure you only remove cios's that it specifically says for that app.

ok now i have a rather large problem... see everytime i try to do ANYTHING (any title deleater, WAD manager, installing a cIOS) or pretty much anything at all, i get an error as soon as i get to anything involving "ticket", so i try to install the cIOS for the backup launcher to work and i cant do it

and i cant uninstall anything either from wads or any title deleater.. it seems like anything to do with "ticket" in my wii is really screwed up.. can anyone help me out here? (i already tried formatting my entire drive and re-installing homebrew with the twilight hack... no dice)

Modchips and softmodding really dont effect each other. You dont have to do anything to be able to put a modchip in.

But did you install IOS16.wad? Thats the only wad that you can install on 3.4 without getting that error and its the one that fixes that error.

Follow step 3 of the guide here http://gbatemp.net/index.php?s=572be6275...howtopic=112945
