Hello,
After many years, I finally found a copy of Rapa Nui on DVD. It is a Region 2 from Spain in pretty good condition. However, I have been trying to make a back up, and I am having a really hard time. The DVD is from 1997, so it probably doesn´t have any anti copy devices. But I have tried with DVD Shrink, and when it is analyzing the disc, the preview window shows a lot of green pixilation. After a few seconds, a redundancy error message showed up. I tried again and even though this time it finished analyzing the disc, when I tried to view the contents of the disc, DVDShrink suddenly closed.
Then I tried with DVD Decrypter. It managed to store the files in the hardrive, but when I opened those files with DVDShrink, it said that there was a problem with the video.
Then I tried with the latest version of DVDFab, but the program can´t even open the disc.
By the way, the movie plays just fine in any of the DVD players that I have, and it also plays fine in my computer.
So I am pretty much out of options here.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Sounds like your disc is either pretty dirty or scratched badly. It's really down to your burner to read the disc properly when ripping to your HDD. See if you can clean it up some and remove any dirt, smudges or fingerprints or perhaps take it to your local rental shop and see if they can resurface the disc for you. Playback is different than ripping...especially on a standalone unit.
Thanks for the quick reply. The disc seems to be clean, and after I had the first failed attempt to back it up with Shrink, I cleaned it just in case. But still nothing. And there are no scratches. At least I can´t see any.
I just ran it through VobBlanker and it made no difference. There is still a lot of green pixelation. I don´t get it. I guess the disc is somehow damaged, but like I said, the surface of the DVD looks flawless and it plays perfectly. Weird...
Thanks anyway!
