Has anyone out there got any suggestions about this cos Im lost.
Ive ripped Monsters Inc to my HD , just the movie no menus etc using Smartripper then Ifoedit to strip it . It all plays fine from my HD but its still too big .
So I demuxed it using Smartripper then re-encoded it using Rempeg with about 85% scaling then remuxed it using Ifoedit again .
The result plays but with no sound for the disney start and the monster in the practice room then restarts now with sound and plays OK , but its just the right size with no extra chapters so it must be playing the same bit twice .
So then I tried again this time using DVD2AVI on the working stripped movie to create a project for Tmpgenc and re-encoded it using this but without the Tmpgtemplate from Ifoedit cos it crashes my machine . the resulting .M2V plays fine in media player with no sound obviously .
So using DVD Maestro Ive put the .M2V , .AC3 and the chapters from chapterXtractor back together and authered the DVD back to my HD ready to copy to disk .
This time the movie plays with sound right from the start but it restarted twice this time .
As Ive been typing this in Im trying Tmpgenc again and Ive just noticed the movie has restarted in the preview window .
Ive no idea all I can say is the movie on my hard drive that has been stripped plays fine , Ive been through it on fast forward using the Ifoedit player and it doesn't restart but if you mess about jumping chapters and speeding up in forwards and reverse it does sometimes lose sound and stops jumping to next chapter but all you have to do is exit and start again
Any help on this would be most appreciated :)

Right I,ve got a bit more to add to the last post.
I've tried ripping with Dvddecrypter and Smartripper but that made no difference and since I've already tried Rempeg and Tmpgenc the problem has to lie with Ifoedit.
I've now tried to strip the movie thread with Smartripper and then used DVD2AVI on the vobs then Tmpgenc to squash the film and finally DVD Maestro to re author the movie and it works :)
So although Ifoedit has succesfully stripped the thread of the film with 1 sound channel and got it all working in a folder on my HD there is actually some hidden problem that doesn't show until I try to process the film some more.

Soundn like you ripped files you dont need, I ripped this with DVDDecrypter using IFO mode and it was less then 4 Gigs. Cleaned it up with IFO edit and burned on one disc. Job was quick and easy.

never say I can't be done as some smart !!! has already done it.

Its not that I ripped files I dont need , its that Ifoedit is making mistakes . I tell it I want the movie and 1 soundtrack only , tell it to create new IFO's and away it goes but somehow it gets it all wrong .
It does it on movies where there is something infront of the film like a menu as with Monsters Inc and The Matrix . I dont know how to explain it any better but I know these films are different because I've ripped about 40 other films without trouble .
I can use smartripper to rip the film alone no problem but the I cant create new IFO's because Ifoedit just goes through the motions and doesn't create anything . So I use smartripper to demux the movie and 1 soundtrack which I can rebuild using DVD Maestro . This might be long winded but it Always works . If the movie is too big I can Rempeg it while its in bits unless its way too big in which case I use Tmpgenc because its much better

Let em try again, the way I did it is to rip using Devdecypter in IFO mode. Delete all but the vobs then run IFOEDIT over it again to recreate IFO's. Get VTS sectors and the job was done. Its a reall easy movie to rip, didnt take very long. Again I did NOT take any of the menus and garbage like I think you did and thats what I thnk is screwing you up.

I'll tell you how I tried and failed with this one but this method works for most films .
I rip the movie to hard drive with Smartripper taking all the files .
Then using Ifoedit I open the movie IFO , usually VTS_01_0.IFO and using the vob extras menu I select strip streams , create new video and vts IFO's , correct vob navs and correct IFO tables .
This gives me a fully working movie in a new folder with just the streams I chose , usually the movie and the 6 channel sound with nothing else , no menus no nothing , the movie just runs . Thats basically all I want , I dont care about all the extras I'd rather use the space on the disk to get the best possible quality for the movie .
Quite often this is small enough to burn to DVD with no messing about with Rempeg or Tmpgenc but thats no problem if I have to squash it .
As you say Monsters Inc is small enough once ripped and stripped but mine came to about 5.5gig and I'd done nothing any different to any other movie it was Ifoedit that was doing the restarts ?
I have a problem using your method , I can rip the film with Dvddcryptor or Smartripper but when I use Ifoedit to create new IFO's for the VOB's it goes through the motions but doesn't actually produce anything , I've seen other people posting the same problem on this forum but never seen how to stop it . So I was kind of tied into using Ifoedit to strip the movie because if I used anything else I was left with VOB's that I cant use .
My method now with these problem movies is to demux the movie and sound to extra files using Smartripper then rebuild the whole thing again with DVD Maestro .
I would love to know why these movies kind of trip up Ifoedit but so far Monsters Inc , The Matrix and Swordfish all gave funny results . If you happen to have any of these lying about and you can be bothered you should try one of these films my way and see what happens :)

Piptser, I have done Monster Inc and the Matrix the way I described with no problems at all but never tried swordfish. If you hust want the movie and only the movie then why do you take all the files to doiscard some afterwards? If you use DVDDecryper in IFO mode it will only take the vobs in the movie and you can even strip subtitles and unwanted audio streams at the same time (very neat!) but you have to select stream processing. DVDectypter has certainly improved a lot and is nowthe best ripper in my humble opinion.

I must admit I hadn't really tried DVD Decrypter and I am very impressed by it .
I always take the whole film to start with because I go to lan partys and sometimes come back with upto 10 films on my drive that I dont have time to do anything with till later so I just kind of do it automatically now .
I've still got the same problem with Ifoedit though , I had a quick try on friday with DVD Decrypter in IFO mode then tried Ifoedit to create IFO's but it just wont do it for me , maybe its an XP problem cos Im kind of stuck with it , my system wasn't really stable with 2000
