so my comp froze in the process of flashing ixtreme 1.4 onto a hitachi ver. 79. i was able to dump the orig. firmware fine but when i tried to flash it, it stopped about midway and left my comp unresponsive. i tried to wait in hopes it would resolve it self, but no luck. so it's now bricked, i can't get it back into mode b. with some reading i discovered this is a somewhat common problem with the VIA chipset. i don't have a native sata port otherwise. so i'm just wanting to know if its possible to unbrick. i've tried to google it but haven't found anything.
p.s. i've already spoofed another drive inplace of it... i'm just wanting to know if it's fixable

What method did you use to get the drive into ModeB? I used SLAX 2.0 if you didn't use it then it's worth a try. If it is common someone will chime in I'm sure.

i used slax 2.1 and i had to use the command [i]slax acpi=off[i] at the beginning of it loading. it worked fine until the flash was interupted and i had to restart my comp.
from what i know this is known to happen while using the via chipset and flashing a hitachi drive. i've flashed other drives using the via chipset with no problems, even other hitachis. this is the first drive i've bricked.

I would try it again. Can't screw it up anymore than it is now. This is how I flashed a friends Hitachi 59DJ. I not sure if 79 and 59 is flashed the same way or not.

1. Download SLAX 2.0 (ISO) and burn .iso to a disk. Imgburn is easy as you only have to right click on it and select ?Burn with Imgburn?
2. Download iXtreme1.4_Hitachi_C4EVA_rev1
3. Insert SLAX2.0 cd and change BIOS to boot from CD drive first.
4. Reboot PC and power on the 360.
5. Once SLAX2.0 starts to load connect the SATA to the 360 the bootup in slax might take a few minutes.
6. At some point during the bootup process ?spinning up disk? should be displayed.
7. Press eject on the 360 drive and it will continue to bootup in SLAX. SLAX never finished booting up for me and gave me some sort of error but don?t remember what, sorry.
8. Whether it boots up or not disconnect the SATA cable but DO NOT TURN OFF the 360. If the 360 is turned off the 360 drive will exit modeB.
9. Restart PC and as soon as possible press the eject button on the PC Drive to eject SLAX2.0. This will allow the PC to boot up in windows and not in SLAX2.0
10. Once booted into windows reconnect the SATA cable to the 360 drive.
11. Go to My Computer and see if the drive is listed. Right click on it and select eject to make sure it is the correct drive. Your 360 drive should eject.
12. Press the eject button on the 360 drive twice to make it retract the tray. As it is retracting press the eject button a third time and the tray will stay in.
13. Open iXtreme1.4_Hitachi_C4EVA_rev1 folder and select the FLASHIX.BAT file.
14. Follow the directions onscreen. At one point it will ask you to enter a name for the backup firmware. I saved it as the owner of the XBOX ?Sean?
15. After you complete the onscreen instructions the XBOX is flashed and the original firmware is in the iXtreme1.4_Hitachi_C4EVA_rev1 folder saved as the name given in the Dos menu.
16. The 360 drive is still in modeB (takes to presses of the eject button to eject or retract the tray). Power off the XBOX and disconnect the 360 drive completely for about 3 ? 5 minute (I?m not sure if disconnecting the drive is required but I did it to sure it would reset). This step will reset the drive and exit modeB.
17. Reconnect the 360 Drive and press the eject button (should on take one press of the eject button to open the drive). Note: The 360 will still play backups in modeB it?s just annoying to press the eject button twice every time.
18. Now it is time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Insert a backup of a game you own and play until your fingers bleed.

I know what your saying I had the same thing happen to me.The only way I have heard to fix it is to send the drive to someone and have them remove the Flash Chip and have them reprogram it with the orig firmware.I have seen some people on X-scene that does it.But for the price it would prob cost it would be cheaper to buy another drive.which you said you have another one spoofed already.

Mine did the same thing froze up at 90 percent while flashing, then after you do a reboot, dead as a door nail, won't and can't get into mode b.I have only had this prob on one drive also, after flashing lots of drives.Luckly the drive that bricked was one of my own and not someone else's.
