I have no trouble with dash or the plus format, after it was booktyped to dvd-rom. I haven't tried a non booktyped + wii backup yet.
If you go the plus format route, open up imgburn,mode/write:
Now look for the little small book icon on lower right of the window.See if your dvd-rw drive matches any of those brand name tabs. If so,click the drive tab that pertains to your model. If it's grayed out, then no dice. If lit up:Change for-set to dvd +r/New Setting-set to dvd-rom/and click change. OK the success window and close out. The current setting should go to dvd-rom.
Some rebadge drives may have a name like HP,Sony,IOmagic, but may have been built by liteon,lg,benq, etc. If you suspect your drive is rebadge, click the tab that may pertain to it.Example: SonyDRU-710A,click on the liteon tab.If Change to setting grayed out,no dice.
Best to try both formats and test in all drives that plan on playing any of your backups.
Rule of thumb: 1st thing to do us use quality media. Then if your drive has bitsetting capability to booktype, stick with the plus format. If no capability, stick with the dash format.
If they were +16x,I gotta watch the burn speed. With games, everyone says slow. With MCC-004 media, more errors show up at the slower speeds. I had way too many crc errors on my backups that were burned at 2.4x for regular movie backups.Scans of mu8x and 12x speed scored better than the 4x speed.
16x verbatim were designed to be burned faster, not slower.
