I have a new computer running Vista and everytime I try to download ripit4me to save to my computer, I go through all the steps, unzip the file, ripit4me opens up like it was successful, but then once I close the ripit4me box I can't find the program anywhere on my computer to use it again? It's not installed. If I wanted to use it again I would have to go through the whole download process again? any ideas appreciate it.

Hi,

but from what it sounds like, it seems you did not actually install ripit4me, you just ran it from the download folder.

It's not a normal install per say. Once you unzip the file and run the .exe the program opens.
So create an empty folder anywhere on your hard disk like - "C:\Program Files\ripit4me". Extract the zip file there.
Then you can just right click on it and create a shortcut that you can drag to your desk top.

Have an even better suggestion... my favorite way to install programs in Zip files that are the actual program and not normal installs..

Go to ZipInstaller and download the ZipInstaller program (you can get either the EXE file by itself or with a help file in a zipped archive)..

Put the EXE file in your downloads directory (you might want to make a folder just for downloading zipped files)... Then when you download a file like Ripit4me (an exe only), run ZipInstaller and point it to the zipped file... It will create a program folder for you and shortcuts in both the program folder and desktop (if you want) as well as creating and uninstaller (again if you want).

Works like a charm and I've used it for every stand alone app I run across... no more searching for whatever folder I put the file in when I originally downloaded it.

Thanks so much for your replies. It was just so weird because ripit4me wouldn't install like a regular download does where I can actually see it in my list of programs, on my start menu etc. I basically couldn't understand why I had to "run and seemingly install" the program again everytime I wanted to use it.

No problem... Its just that the file is the actual program so there's no "installer" or setup program to run.. When you click on the EXE file, it just opens.

If you use the ZipInstaller like I do, it will look and act just like a program you actually have to install. It will show up in your list of programs, on your start menu and so on...
