Ok, so the PC version of GTA 4 was released, and it's encoded with Securom. I own the original copy, but I wish to make a backup copy so me and my brother can play. You can back it up, and burn it, but when you run the game, Securom says the game is a backup. I booted in safe mode, roamed the registry for any Securom scraps, deleted all Securom files, and it still does it. Any ideas?

Hi,

I believe in the inner area where the laser cannot burn is either data or implanted a chip that the game player reads. So no copied disc can play. The only way around this is the addition of a mod chip to the console (which voids the warranty)

This is what I hear,

Bryston, it's on PC. And I tried CureROM, but the game will not run if Securom can't start. So has anyone else got ideas?

try gamecopyworld.com
helps with backing up your games to prevent the kids from destroying the disks.

What does this have to do with dvd transcoding tools?

This comes more under the hacking/cracking.. thst is not just dealing with a bit of encryption and some bad sectors on a disk.. this is how to generically remove an anti-piracy measure.. lol.. good way to get a takedown notice..

check out gameburn world.. 2 minutes with google found me the answer XD

Man, I've raided Google hard. I looked at gameburnworld and that didn't actually have anything regarding GTA IV backing up. So what did you type on Google? I've tried:
Securom
Uninstall securom
Backup GTA 4
Backup GTA IV
Burn GTA 4
Burn GTA IV
GTA 4 securom
GTA 4 patch
GTA 4 PC support
GTA 4 PC help

Oh, and if this is in the wrong topic section, please move it. And the reason I put it in one-click transcoding tools is because that's what it's related to, I thought there was some kind of magic tool. By the way, it's not illegal to back up a game if you own the original copy, and you aren't distributing it.

Actually it probably would be illegal because you are breaking the various protections associated with the disc. All countries are different though. Best to read your countries Copyright Act.

But as I stated before you'll probably need Y.A.S.U
Take blivetNC's advise because their is probably a NoCD crack you'll need.

I know it can be done.. well 2 reasons really.. I know how to do it, and you can download the game with it all ripped out.

But knowing how to do it, and where to find that information.. Is vastly different from spreading it all around for everybody to see. I learned my lesson with helping people do illegal (though "fair use") things a couple of years ago. Sorry.. google stripping securerom etc... or strip securom.

SecuROM isn't an anti backup measure.. it is an anti piracy measure.. (supposedly) and a very different matter to discuss.. I have stepped on the toes of the anti-copying people before, and been fleetingly mentioned in legal court documents.. I'm not doing it again.

I know you can download modded versions. But I ended up downloading a crack. The reason I didn't initially do this is because it decreases the amount of gameplay you get or something. Thanks everyone for your help, but the only way to play it without the original CD is to download a cracked launcher.
