Help w/ 'Linksys Etherfast Hub'

I've got a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 Auto-Sensing 16-Port Workgroup Hub (as the sticker on the bottom says) and i used to be able to use it when i used Roadrunner internet, and it was simple plug and play, but now i'm trying to use it w/ my Charter internet as i've moved, and i'm having issues getting it to work at all w/ more then 1 device, i don't want to pay for more IP's so can i use this for my PC and Xbox360 and Ps3?
it's an EFAH16W v1
and my cable modem is Ambit.
i can't seem to find any config information on this thin as it's kind of ancient, i've had it for over 8yrs.
hopefully someone can help?

yeah you should be able to use it. It's a low level device on the osi model, so it's not as intelligent as switches or routers. If possible, I would recommend a switch, if not a router, but hubs should be able to work.
Changing ISPs wouldn't prevent it from working.

changing isp's could prevent it from working actually. if you ask for a copy of their terms, some companys block you from doing different things, especially if they are smaller and they dont want you maxing out your bandwith 24/7. but i would say the true problem here lies in your router, if its that old, you should go ahead and update, you got your moneys worth. Hell a good one now-a-days is only like 35$, And it would be wireless. :)

they can't prevent you from using a hub once you get the signal from your cable modem. As long as he is connected directly from the wall to the cable modem (and assuming that connection works), he can then take the ethernet from the cable modem and plug it into any networking device. It would not stop working because of a change of service.

LOL you guys are missing one important thing...a very important thing. A lot of modems have a router with a 4 port switch built in. If he switched out his modem/router he can only get one ip address with the new modem. That would mean he needs another essential piece of hardware (router) to make his setup work again. So if i were you i'd go return that switch or just go buy a router.
The router just takes the ip from your modem and shares it with any other connection it sees. The isp will only see the ip address that is assigned to you, but the router will see static and dynamic ip addresses within your network. A static ip address won't have internet access and a dynamic/automatic/manual ip address will.
So i'm just letting you know, you're probably missing a router now and you can only have one ip address with internet access assigned at a time.

neither service provided a router, just straight cable modems, 1 was a Motorola, and this is Ambit.
I'm trying to use the HUB to split the connection, but when i previously had done this on a different ISP it did split the connection, but each was assigned an IP from RoadRunner. (this was free)
my current provider only allows 1IP to be used at a time per modem, unless you pay them money and rent there router and shit, which is an extra $5 a month for the router rental and then an extra $5 per IP.
i don't want to add an extra 20-30, a month on my cable bill as i'm already forking out like 110 a month between my net and tv service.
i'm wanting to be able to connect multiple devices w/o having to pay them more, i understand that speed suffers yada yada, but i'd like to be able to play 360 on live while my gf looks at her lil websites.

hopefully this is a little more indepth, and maybe i confused some peolpe originally, thanks for the help in advance (and sorry if this is confusing i was trying to due all this with exsisting hardware, if this isn't possible and there is another way i should go about this let me know.)

I'm guessing your previous ISP did something to allow the connection to be split ?, with the new ISP it's looking like you need to buy a router..

yes, just a simple old school hub, but i think i'm going to end up buying a wireless G router, w/ 1 ethernet passthrough.
Would that work?
Will that work w/ the 360 Wireless Adapter? (is there something cheaper, that works great, other then the $100 Adapter?)
Will i be able to use my ps3 as it sits?
Will i be able to use a laptop i'm planning on getting in a few months?
Will i be able to use my psp as well?
Any recomendations of something reliable and easy to set up for this?

$100 for a gaming router - that's a major con. You can buy a really cheap, standard router, Linksys for example, and put DD-WRT firmware on it, obviously provided it's a router supported by DD-WRT. You could of course use a router with it's stock firmware but stock router firmware is never up to much.
These days most wifi routers come with 4 ethernet ports as standard so there's no need or cost saving to buying one with less ports.
I don't use wireless for any of my own consoles, just ethernet (the 4 routers themselves are connected together wirelessly, everything hanging off the routers is ethernet-connected), but i often read (over on the DD-WRT forums) about how easy it is to setup a standard (supported!) wifi router as a gaming router.
I have 5 old type xboxes, a 360, and many pc's all ethernet-connected to the wifi routers, thru a 16-port Linksys switch as it happens.
edit- i'm rusty on the differences between hubs and switches, basically switches allow the full 100mb per switch-port regardless of how many/what speed devices are attached, with hubs a particular device can hog the entire hub and/or drag the entire hub down to the lowest speed device.
Something like that anyway.
edit- after seeing C4RN1's reply re the excelllent WRT54GS, thought i'd list my routers - 4 node (DD-WRT v23 sp2) 'WDS' network over WPA2 security, comprising 2x Buffalo WHR-G54S's, a WRT54G v5 and a WRT54G v2 - All 100% stable for over a year so far. Also, spare dd-wrt router WRT54GS v6 using v23 sp2 too.

Just do yourself a favor and spend $50 on a good router. I have a linksys G with speed booster and i've never had any problems with it.

I think i got mine brand new for like 45 shipped or something like that, it was pretty cheap. I upgraded from a really horrible netgear b router that kept losing wireless signal.
Anyway i still think the problem is that you don't have a router, as i already stated 5 posts ago.
