I would stay away from the cheap no brand name and house brand type if in the USA get Verbatim at the stores on sale they are cheap and they will work ! Or you will make a bunch of coasters . I've learned the hard way !Some name brands like Memorex and Sony are bad ! I've tried all kinds of blanks and the Verbatims are always cheap and work great for movie backups. Just my 2 cents .

Cheap doesn't mean it's fully effective.

For the best quality back-up's it best to use Taiyo Yuden (available online as mentioned) or Verbatim.

I haven't had any personal experience burning Blu-Ray's as of yet. Verbatim makes 2x and 4x blank BR's. As expensive as those blanks are, i wouldn't chance buying an el-cheapo and getting a coaster in return.

sak50 you can now backup blu-ray DVDs to a standard DVD using BD Rebuilder with perfect results. no need to buy blank blu-ray DVDs, read here

personally I agree on the Taiyo Yuden, verbatim recommendation- When disc were higher I would have recommended riteks Or Ricohjpn for a ' less expensive alternative To sony , Taiyo yuden , or verbatims .. But being media cost have dropped lately why not just splurge and use the good stuff ? Basically I do a two tiered system - Riteks/ricohs for the family & verbatims ,sony's Taiyo Yuden for me !!! in practice I've never had any problems with the Riteks or Ricohs -I'm not putting them in the same class as Taiyo yuden or verbatim But they'll due for a budget alternative ! Which what I think the original intent of the question was ? And being Officedepot is apparently phasing out Their Branded Riteks & ricohs I guess I'll Have to switch to another Secondary brand when My Officedepots& maxell Riteks run out ( Might Be awhile LOL!!!) or I could just wait for a killer taiyo Yuden Thermal sale and buy a Bunch of'em LOL!!!! Later friends ***

How about 15 cent Ritek/Ricoh dvd-/+R ?

That's what I payed at my last visit at Office Depot for their brand name media sale. $15 per 100 pk tub. Keep an eye on their weekly sales.

saugmon- I hear you my lil' pollywoggian prognosticator !!!! - And no I'm not even going to try to say that three times fast so don't ask okay? Last time I went to OFFICEDEPOT they were still Red-lining their media & some name brand stuff too!!! But they did'nt have much in the way of dvd media that I would consider a bargain Even with the 25% off regular inflated prices !!! - But it was good while it lasted right ? I guess they're just going to carry {NAME Brands ) from now on ? Suppose I'll Just have to hoard the Quantity I have and get'em {riteks) from newegg now? when I run out or Switch to taiyo Valuelines maybe ? anyways Is their any online retailer that carries the ricohs ? just wundering ? Oh Well That's life I guess Later buddy !!!!
