Can you update the DIVX codec on a PS3?

I've noticed some divx/xvid movies wont' play on the PS3 - says unknown format or corrupt file or something - which they're not as they play fine on my PC and on my Pioneer DVD/divx player.

Is there any easy way to update the PS3 to the latest divx codec so that it will play anything my PC will?

It can only be updated through the firmware.

Is there any way to force it to update the divx codec? Doing a system update just reports the system is up to date. But obviously since my PC can play divx movies my PS3 can't, it's got to be just a issue with the codec.

could possibly be a container issue.

try switching the extension and see if u can force it to run. like (from .divx to .avi)

I had an issue with that, I used Nero as a media server instead of the Windows media player and it encodes it to play for ps3, you can try that I don't know if it'll work though

When I have a problem, I just run it through WinAVI. Sometimes some of aXXo's files do not work on the PS3 right off the bat.
