Use Nero Vision - here's a guide - link.
Make sure you are using the latest version Nero - if not update it - 7.11.10.0.

Then there's also the free DVDFlick - guide.
It will handle formats that Vision doesn't like mkv or mov but chances are you dl is an avi which Vision should handle.

Check out the p2p forums for some guides that may help you out - speeds, clients etc. Good members there that can help you out too. link

Hmmm to learn about pc's - try how stuff works. They also have info on file sharing there (p2p, bittorent)

Ah yes using p2p you need to watch it - you may be downloading a virus (always scan them) plus you're leaving ports open.
Nero Vision doesn't handle subtitles. Plus it can be hit or miss w/ .mov files at best.
I'm not sure if DVDFlick does or not. It may handle subtitles.
Check out their site to see if they do:
http://www.dvdflick.net/

I also use ConvertXtoDVD - not free but another good one. Has a trial but leaves a watermark.
There may be other free ones out there that handle subs I just don't know of any off the top of my head.

edit: atrocious typos!
