hi bought xbox 360 for kids and having trouble connecting to online every time i connect my ethernet cable to xbox it still says on xbox that im disconnected im using a cable direct from modem/router to xbox any help please

also im only using my ethernet cable thats in my pc i unplug the end to my pc and plug that into my xbox.
