Hello all. Recently I was given a 360 core system with a faulty dvd drive. I am going to purchase a new drive and replace the boards in the two, nothing I haven't done before. My question is with the hard drive. It didn't come with one, and I don't really want to purchase one.

Now I happen to have a 80gb 2.5 sata drive laying around and was wondering if I could simply buy a 360hdd caddy and insert this drive and use it like nothing. Or would I require some type flashing, or is it just not possible?

Thanks in advance.

a drive upgrade is possible, to an extent. you need to borrow an official 20/120gig drive.

the drive must be a western digital BEVS drive, and you would need hddhackr 0.91. you dump the hddss.bin from the official drive and put it onto the WD drive. 20gigs will dump the hddss.bin with no problems, but 120gigs need a manual method.

So I assume that the Seagate Momentus drive wouldn't be compatible?

Well then thanks. Guess I'll just have to shell out some more money since I'm fine with a 20gb drive. As per the drive, this won't be seen as a mod would it? I've never done this to a console before.

no momentus drives. the readme with hddhackr says it's only for WD scorpio BEVS drives.

as for a mod, that is a good question. i am unsure myself. you use a hddss.bin from an original drive, and you format the drive on the 360, but it's questionable if MS can detect the hard drive also.
