I'm having a problem plugging two devices into my television

This looked to be the closest to most appropriate board to post this question. The back of my television has two audio/video (yellow/white) inputs. However, when I try to plug two devices (Xbox 360 and DVD player) into these inputs, the picture of whichever I'm using has a bad, bright picture and the volume is very low. I don't think they would give the option of two inputs if it weren't possible to use them. I have to only have one plugged in at a time. Both inputs use the Auxillary channel by default and there doesn't appear to be a way to change that. What can I do apart from unplug one when I want to use the other?

Audio is red and white
Yellow is video
Do you have a scart or dvi plugin on the back of your tv?
And how old is your TV?

Audio is red and white if you have stereo. In my case, audio is just white. Anyway, the only other plugins that I have are VGA and S-Video. I suppose I should invest in a VGA cable for my 360. I didn't realize they even made those until I looked it up just now. Is the picture just as good with VGA? I know some say quality varies depending on the cable you choose.
