I have an xbox NTSC-J it was purchase and modded in thailand, with a 220v power source, but works fine with the american 110v. It has finnaly died after about 3 RROD's.

I just purchased a new 360 with a lite-on drive. My qestion is...would I be able to take out my old hitachi drive and put it in my new unit?

no.. the DVD keys wouldn't match...

you need to go through the liteon flash process... extracting the key and then flashing iXtreme 1.5 ... there are many tutorials and instructions...

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I believe you will need to wait for the iXtreme 1.5 firmware for Hitachi. Reason being that once you have the key from the lite-on, you will need to flash it along with iXtreme 1.5 (Hitachi) to cater for the hidden lite-on commands.

he wanted to know if he could take the lite on out of the new box and replace it with the hitachi, even if he can do that it would be better to leave the hitachi alone in the rrod box and to just flash the liteon which came in the new box he just got....would it not?

absolutely ... if an xbox came with a liteon drive you should keep a liteon drive inside it ... spoofing onto another drive would just increase your chance of detection and getting banned from xbox live..

what the original poster wanted to do was basically have a modded xbox without going through any more trouble... unfortunately it doesnt work that way cause microsoft ties the motherboard+dvd drive together with a key...

on top of all that, the liteon is by far a superior drive. just keep the liteon, imo.

I'm a semi-nob to flashing, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be possible to take the key from the liteon drive (I know this is an involved process) Then dump the FW from the hitachi, embed it with the liteon's key and reflash the hitachi so it had the same key as the new box's mobo?

I agree that it's much simpler to leave things as they are, but if he really wanted to go to all this trouble, it should be possible in theory, right?

yea i guess its possible, but if u can extract the key, it means u can flash the drive. the main point is why rewrite the firmware for the hitachi when u can just do it for the lite-on.

yea sounds like it would work, and correct me if i am wrong but isnt drive spoofing always in theory more detectable by MS and lead to a Ban?

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

i dunno about spoofing, but i know that the hitachi is more likely to be banned than a lite-on
