I'm going to buy my wii sunday and I don't know what to do.
Should I mod it with wiikey2 or should I install HBC and the wiigator?
If I let it someone mod it. It will cost me 105 Euro's. but if my wii is broken, they can fix it for me.
If i install HBC and wiigator by myself, It will cost me nothing. But if i brick it, then I don't know who can fix it for me.
The problem is:
I'm scared of if I softmod it I will brick my wii. No one can fix it for me. But if I let someone mod my wii with the wiikey2, I need to pay 105 Euro's. That's a lot of money
The chances of bricking the wii when attempting to softmod are very low so long as you arent messing with the region changer or downgrader. Those are the only homebrew apps that get down to the deep levels of the firmware and can likely cause a brick.
If its truly bricked then odds are it cant be fixed. A full brick wii wont even turn on. You probably heard about the semi-brick fix disk. The wii can be semi-bricked if you let a game from a different region as your wii run an update. A semi-bricked wii will still play games, but the settings menu cannot be accessed. You wont have to worry about that with the backup loader though as it blocks updates from disks.
No, no updates to date have ever effected modchips. The newer ones have messed with the softmod methods and made them harder to install, but if you already had the cIOS firmware installed before updating they didn't effect anything.
Its only out of region updates that cause problems. Updating online or from games from your wii's region are fine.
