I'm having trouble deciding on a receiver. I wanna experience the TrueHD sound my Playstation3 is capable of producing and I'm pretty sure my old Sony STR-DE315 isn't giving me that experience ;)

But I'm torn between Onyko, Harman/Kardon, and Denon mostly because I have never owned anything from these manufacturers and I never even purchased a receiver before. The old Sony was a hand-me-down.

Here are the receivers I got it narrowed down too.

ONKYO TX-SR606 $399

harman/kardon AVR 254 $399

ONKYO TXSR706B THX $550
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120107

ONKYO TXSR806 THX $599
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120109

Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K $450
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117251

Denon AVR-889 $799at CircuitCity
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Denon-AVR...roductDetail.do

Denon AVR-789 $599 at CircuitCity
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Denon-AVR...roductDetail.do

I don't expect anyone to do my homework on these but after reading all the specs and reveiws I and can't make a decision. Are these even what I should have it narrowed down to? Any other suggestions?

Of those you listed, I'd go for the Onkyo TX-SR806 or the Denon AVR-889.
I'm not an HK fan, and I like Onkyo and Denon better than Pioneer. I recently got an Onkyo TX-SR805 myself, and liking it so far.

I've been doing alot of research and found that the Onkyo TX-Sr806 has a video processing flaw at 1080p regardless if your upconverting or just "through". So I'm stayin away from it. So I'm either going to get the Onkyo TX-SR606 or the TX-SR706. At Newegg.com there is a price difference of $150 between the two. The receivers are almost identicle except the 706 is THX Certified, has 10 more watts of power per channel (100x7), and has a few more inputs and outputs. (Less inputs/outputs don't effect my setup)

So does having 10 more watts of power and THX Certification worth $150 more? Am I going to hear the difference?

The answer to your question is unlikely.

I have never been a fan of receivers (except in my youth when that was all I could afford)

Now, I can't stand anything except basic systems, preamp/processors with monoblock poweramps (big ones with 500 w per channel), and good ones at that.

True, they cost an arm and a leg (and then some), but hey, what doesn't ?

My system consists of a pre/pro and 5 separate monoblocks.
Good speakers and a powered subwoofer (2500 w).
I don't drive a Mercedes (my HT system made up for that)

My home theatre I can enjoy for a long time and sounds better than almost all movie houses (yes, it cost a pretty penny)

Yes, I am jaded in my response, but I love great music (one of my passions, and I am not a musician or audio engineer)

I traded in some things for my audio system, and friends visiting can enjoy it with me.

Just my thoughts

I hear ya...
But I'm only a 21 year-old student on a budget and can't afford a pretty penny on home theatre. I figure I'll buy something now to upgrade a little bit and give it some time before I drop a pretty penny on new equipment.

PS I bought the 606 and saved some money
