I have been using dvd shrink now for about 8 years and it works great, but until recently I have been running into the problem that my dvds will not playback in my dvd player anymore. The dvd shrink process takes me through to the end just like usual but then when I go to put it into the dvd player, it says the disc is dirty or playback feature may not be available on this disc. I have a dvd player that is suppossed to play burned dvds. I buy sony and memorex dvd+r blank discs. Why am I experiencing this problem?
Playback problems can be caused by quite a large array of factors.
First off, Memorex media is typically junk. The best media to use is Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony.
Burn speed can affect playability in standalone players. Burn at 8x max with no multitasking.
Using the -R format is widely acceptable with most standalones. If using the +R format booktype to DVD-ROM for the best playability. (assuming your burner supports the function)
And then there's the process of ripping and burning to take into account.
Dvd Shrink, though still a very useful program is no longer supported and cannot handle all newer encryptions.
Rip with DvdFab HD Decrypter which is freeware and updated often to keep up with the new encryptions.
1st thing to do is slap them back into the pc and play them using the same dvd-rw drive. Should play them near perfect. This will help eliminate the culprit.
I am very familiar with the Dirty Disc sony error. Usually it's the format of media that you are using.Try dash format.
If you changed any drives what so ever, you may have to switch formats or booktype the plus format to dvd-rom.What worked before, may not when switching to different dvd-rw drives and stand alones.
No disc/Dirty disc/Wrong region/wrong format/and illegal disc are some of the messages stand alone players display when they don't like certain dvd backups. 90% of the time you see that No Disc error, try the opposite format.
Do as 7thsinger posted, and also try another burn engine. Sometimes a certain burn program will give picky players that No Disc error.
Sticker labels can give that error message.
Don't go by what the manufacturer says that their dvd players will and won't play. Players have a harder time playing backups, period!I've proved many of them wrong and some dvd-rw drives are so crappy, stand alone compatability is very low on them-HP LOL! High quality burners yield a higher compatability. Quality booktyping drives yield the Highest stand alone player compatability after booktyping the plus format to dvd-rom. That usually takes care of 99% of those no disc errors.
