What speed is your line?
If could also be the fact that whoever is hosting the ping between you,s could be high resulting in lag.
Certain times during the day, have you gone over your bandwidth?
If this happens usually your ISP will throttle your internet traffic, resulting in lower speeds.

its an 8mb line so it shouldnt be effected that much by lack of speed i have come acrooss the problem of the hosts but it seems to be every game i went in last night i was down to one bar! could it be something to do the the main compute networks to other devices my dad had it set on inviisible or hide network devices i turned it on and it seems to be ok but is that only a temp measure??

Although you pay for an 8meg line it is likely to be 'up to 8 meg'. Have you check to see what speeds you are actually getting?

It shouldnt really make a difference.
It you have 8meg speed i take it your using ADSL?
If so i really dought you are getting the full speed, i can only get 5megs which will drop depending how may users there are in that exchange (hurry up and unbundle BT!).
Even if your sitting on top of the fecking exchange doesnt mean you will have the best speed, somebody down the road may have abetter speed! Wierd i know, but thats a fact.
Have you just recently had broadband installed? They could still be doing tests to determin your maximum speed.
Also still need to know what your bandwidth is, am a casule gamer, my bandwith was 10gigs a month, and wasnt enough, so once i went over they throttled me.

10gigs a month? That's ludicrous.

Anyway upload and ping are what really effect gaming, download isn't usually an issue. Also connection stability can be be a problem sometimes which is what I'm dealing with right now.

Run a test using www.speedtest.net and post the results for the download upload and ping. Also where are you located? It could just be the sheer distance from the servers.

Tell me about it mate... now with SKY, cheaper with 40gigs a month.

As Can has said, it is to do with ping and upload, take alook here, run a test and get back to us.

You forgot to include the ping. But I'll explain what you got.

Download is how much data from the internet gets to you in a second.

Upload is how much data you can sent to the internet per second.

Ping is the time that it takes for the data to travel from your computer to the internet and back.

In essence when you see everyone teleporting around (aka lag hopping) or not moving at all your download is bad, when you are hopping and teleporting around but can see everyone else moving around normally your upload is bad, and ping is bullet lag.

Your download is more than sufficient but your upload is so so, right now I'm interested in seeing the ping.
