Hi everyone.

I'm getting frustrated reading tutorial after tutorial and still can't connect wonder if you guys can help.

here is the thing. I have a computer on my living room set up with a modem and a router (linksys Wtr54g). on my room i have a computer with a d-link wireless pci card. the xbox 360 ethernet cable is long enough to connect to the computer in my room so i connected it to the free ethernet hub.

after that my computer showed two hi lan connection a wireless connection which is working and connected and a local area connection which showed limited or no connectivity.

I bridged both connections and got a network bridge and now both wireless and local are "bridged and connected". i set up my xbox 360 network configuration to automatic but i still cant connect to xbox live.

I double checked the ip adress and dns dettings that the xbox had configured and they are the same as my network bridge so i don't see what i'm missing. on the xbox if i try to connnect to the pc, the xbox connects to the network then sees the "pc not listed" but when i select it it says that connection failed. and when i try to connect to xbox live it passes through the network but can't get the internet.

my question is are there any ports that i need to open so the xbox 360 can connect to the internet or what iam doing wrong?
also i have zone alarm firewall but even when i shut off the firewall it did not work.

sorry i cant help with ur specific question, but wouldnt it be easier to get a long ethernet cable and run to ur modem/router? or to move the router to the same room as the 360? u can get a coubler that will let u connect 2 ethernet cables together to make a longer cable. they are fairly cheap also. you are probably tryng to avoid spending money tho so im probably not helping...

I have a long ethernet cable and i have used it sometimes when im alone because the way my apartment is build the ethernet cable just pases in the middle of everything. also the only coax hub in the apartment is in the living room and i need that to get my internet so thats why im stucked. thanks for the reply though.

maybe useing a wireless network extender would work. u could place it in the bedroom and it would pick up the signal from the living room router and u can plug the 360 into the extender that is in your room. it is more work than simply getting a wifi adapter for the 360 but it is probably cheaper than the 100 bucks they charge for the adapter

also on some site i ant remmeber i saw someone built a wifi adapter for their 360, i dunno how well it works but maybe that is an option

im considering buying something cause this is getting frustrating. i found a tutorial that offers a different set up i'll try it and let you guys know thanks.

Never mind I found the problem i was using an ethernet cable instead of a crossover cable (did not know there was a diference)well i learned something new today anyways thanks guys.
