The Sony KDL-52W4100 LCD TV has an optical digital audio output jack. What would this be used for? My DVD player and SAT receiver have these outputs. Wouldn't I use those to connect to my A/V receiver? Are the broadcast over-the-air channels containing Dolby sound that this jack would be used for?
Thanks for any and all help. I'm brand new to home theater systems and setups.

Yes, you connect those to your A/V receiver. Make sure the source is outputting a digital signal. You may also have to assign the input on your receiver, to whatever you plugged into it.

The optical output on tvs, is for getting 5.1 surround, from local HD channels, over the built-in tuner, while hooked up to an antenna.
