Hi, I been trying to burn movies onto blank DVD (DVD-R 4x 120min) for the last two days.
First I used ConvertXtoDVD to convert two movies onto a DVD but when I tried to play it on my PS2, there were sudden pauses almost every 4-5 seconds.
Then I tried using DVD Flick to burn just one movie. There were still pauses but less often that using ConvertXtoDVD.
I am wondering what the problem is. Could it be because of the 4x speed, the application I am using, the PS2, or the 120 minute?
The movie is 2 hours and 43 minutes but the blank DVD-R says 120 minutes, so would that cause a problem?
Also when I convert videos/movies to DVD format, does the size get bigger? The movie I was trying to convert was actually 1.3gb but when ConvertXtoDVD and DVD Flick views it as 3.6gb.
Thanks for the help!
PS2's can be picky when it comes to reading dvd backups.
Play it in your pc using the same dvd-rw drive that burned it.
1) Using any sticker labels?
2) Multi-tasking during the backup process?
3) Crappy media? What's the brand name and speed rate of your blank media?
4) What format are those files in before using convertxtodvd?
4x is about par for most blank media. Verbatim can show issues at slower burning,by which they were designed to be burned fast. If using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, step up to at least 8x.
When transferring avi to dvd,the size does get considerably bigger. As long as you stay under the total of 4.36 gigs, then you're all right. Any bigger, then possibility of playback issues on the end of those discs.
I am just now playing with convertxtodvd,so very little knowledge of that program now. My last avi was 977 mbs and ended up at 2.48 gbs.
You can squeeze more than 4 hrs onto the disc, but the quality will really suffer.
Hmm, I played it on my pc using the same drive and it had no sudden pauses. But through one of those fight scenes where it got graphical, the video did had a few pauses. It was not as constant as it was on the ps2.
1) nope
2) nope, I burned it overnight
3) I used TDK DVD-R 4x 4.7 gb 120 minutes for my blank media
4) The files were .avi format
You said
"You can squeeze more than 4 hrs onto the disc, but the quality will really suffer. "
Does this mean that I should with the 120 minutes stated on the blank DVD to prevent the pauses?
Or does going over the length only affect the picture quality of the movie?
Thanks again for your help
I ran the DVD Identifier and it gave the results [TTG01] for Manufacturer ID.
I also tried the DVD on my PS3, it seems to run smoother there.
Could this be a PS2 problem? Or could I actually burn another similar DVD that would run smoothly on my PS2?
My nephew uses the PS/2 for watching DVD movies in his room and I found after many 'returns' because they didn't work that SlySoft's CloneDVD did the best. I ripped to the hard drive then used CloneDVD to go to DVD. They still have a 30-day trial so you can try it. I don't use their compression. If it is over 85% then I'll use DVD-Rebuilder Pro with CCE. If less then good old standby DVD Shrink. It's again CloneDVD to write to DVD. I got caught using heavy compression early on and when we got our new larger screen Digital TVs all our movies ran like crap. They looked great on the small TVs... So I had to go back and get all the original movies out and re-do them. I also only burn Verbs! For my computer... I only burn @ 2.4. It's slow but my Sony burner likes it best.
i have a good burner, use only taiyo yuden premium, and burn at 8x speed. if i make a dvd-r from an avi using svcd2dvd, it'll play perfectly on every dvd player except for the ps2. it'll pause a lot during the second half of the movie. it's not just my ps2 either. i've given dvd-r's to other people and they said it paused a lot on their ps2's, but played fine on their stand alone dvd player. i quality scan, transfer rate test, and buffer test with nero cd-dvd speed and store my dvd's properly. the dvd-r's i make are good. it's some kind of problem with the ps2. funny thing is if i backup a dvd onto a dvd-r, then it plays fine on the ps2.
