I have several movies in AVI format. I transferred them to a DVD as data files, as I can hold several movies on 1 DVD. However, when the DVD is read by my DIVX DVD player, I cannot select movies 2, 3 etc. I must play the first movie, then the 2nd comes on.

Is there any way to add a very basic menu that allows one to select the movies that were copied as data files? I have Sonic Digital Media 7, but I add 1 movie and it is too large in High quality mode. I would prefer to add the movies as data files, and have a basic menu at startup.

Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanks,
R

Try the Divx Builder on this page.
http://userxp.tripod.com/
(Haven't used it myself, let us know if it does the job)

Also, look at tmpgenc/pegasys they also have an authoring product ($$$).

I'm surprised you don't get a table of contents or similar
when you load your disk. Even non-divx certified players do this.
What dvd/divx player do you have?

I have a Magnavox MWD 7006 DVD player.

I do receive a table of contents showing all the data files on the disc. However, I can only select the first file to view. I cannot select to view the 2nd or 3rd AVI files.

That's the strangest thing I've ever heard of.
Any firmware update perhaps?

that is odd, if its not a rewritable disc (perhaps some players cant handle them). can you highlight the files with up/down on your remote? I had a similar problem before with one or two buttons, but ended up being time for new batteries! that was with my philips divx/xvid stand alone player. Its a Dvp762 model, not the most up to date, and some videos with a high bitrate it cant handle (doesnt play them proper, video seems to play at around 10 frames per second!).. everything i convert myself to use is now fine though with the right settings. Can you highlight or select other items, for example, if you make a dvd which has multiple jpeg pictures or mp3s in the same folder? I use ashampoo and just add the divx items straight as normal data files. I would try another burning program to see if that helps. If you want an advanced menu, perhaps with pictures, to show your divx files, i dont think many players can handle them. Im not sure if there was ever a standard for divx menus, but ive never seen one from disc

the only other thing i can think of is perhaps your player can only handle a certain number of videos or items in the same folder on your burnt disc. If your player can read rewritable discs you could try burning less onto a cd or dvd to see if it works then

I checked the batteries, and they are good.

The very first movie in the list is highlighted, but I cannot select either of the other 2 below it.

All movies will play fine. However, to watch movies #2 or #3, I have to fast forward through the movie before it on the DVD. I can burn the movie to DVD using Sonic, but 1 movie takes up a DVD, whereas burning data files takes less space.

try burning it again, but this time put each movie in its own seperate folder, so on your disc you have 5 or so movies in its own seperate location. every divx player should be able to navigate a standard windows/folder file system. If you cannot open the folders or choose their content, try another burning program to see if thats the problem

I use convertxtodvd and it builds a menu ... avi files to dvd.. converts and burns...i swear by this program. And as long as u have a newer dvd player... it should work.

Keep em Burning.
