I currently own a flip and have been taking movies and downloading them into the flip software or manipulating them with sonic software to make dvd's. The problem is once I make the dvd I only have the ability to make the dvd with the sonic software. It seems to me that it dowesnt actually make a file that would be considered the dvd it just tags the files that make the dvd and everytime you go to make a copy you basically need all the original files in their original place in order to make another dvd. I would like to find software that I edit the avi files and then string them together then convert that large file into a dvd which I can then back up on an external drive. Hope this all makes sense it just seems that most software keeps tags on your files and then you need that software to make the dvd. I would like to manipulate the avi's and make my own dvd in a dvd format that I can then burn and save without the need of a specific software. Hope this makes sense. I did try shring and convertx but thought maybe there is something better out there.

thanks

you can use the free avidemux to edit avi's. It can cut scenes out/join scenes together etc. And it will save without reencoding.

As far as converting your finished edited avi, you can use the free dvdflick. The best converter is convertx2dvd it can boost the audio/crop the video etc.

I would try the free software first and see if they work for you.
