i doubt they test and see if it has diffrent firmware but its my friends and hes scared he said he read that they do "diagnostic checks to see what firmware". i was kinda skeptical of that theory though

perhaps they are doing checks on it now, but i know early last year, i sent one of my modded ones in, and a friend sent his due to RROD, and they sent out new ones. so it could have been they are now checking them, or there could have been other things with yours, such as the warranty sticker was as it was suppose to be, or the case had marks where you opened it at, etc.

They will no longer service Xbox's that have been opened. The stickers you have to break or remove when you open it let them know if its been opened and im sure the do check firmware now with "piracy" such a problem
