Fixing 360 Drive

The story: I had a modded 360 but it eventually got the red ring. My roommate also has a 360 but one time he dropped something heavy on the 360 and it broke the DVD drive. I was hesitant to send in my console to MS because it was modded so I came up with a plan to fix both his 360 and mine at the same time. I would swap the DVD drives and send in my modded 360 which now has my roommate's broken DVD drive.

The problem: I didn't know that every DVD drive has digitally signed to a specific console through the firmware until after I sent in my console. MS fixed my red ring 360 and even the broken DVD drive. But now my roommate has a 360 with a flashed DVD drive that won't read any games. I know you need the original firmware in order to properly swap drives but now MS has that drive and there is no way of getting it back.

Any ideas on what I can do guys?

Well I didn't put back together his console until after I sent mine in. Haha I guess I was just lazy. Plus my roommate has a PS3 and he was busy playing that so he didn't care if his 360 was working at the time.
