Do they offer files for download in order to catch people or do they just download the files themselves and then they got ya? I'm referring to emule, DC++, Kazaa, et al. Curious... . Sorry for the nOOb question =O.

A quick note: Technically it is not illegal to download files that turn out to be copyrighted (in the US). The logic here is that you do not necessarily know what you are downloading, and so you have a right to examine the file... note that you are also supposed to delete the file within 24 hours.

The RIAA is not going after people who are downloading, but people who are uploading (or, in the overly-generic terms of the RIAA, 'sharing'); so, the less you upload the lower the chance of being caught to begin with.

just something I picked up on when I USED to use kazaa when I was downloading music and you found a fake file

just check peerguardian it used to detect it was a fake file it was kind of like a filter that could be used to detect fake files also from kazaa all the fake files I found were

ALL

lower cased there was never a capital letter in a file that was fake

just passing a bit of knowledge on~heh~
