Hi -
I have an old Sony Vaio - about 5 years - has a Pioneer DVD burner model 106, it is 4x.

I am finishing off an old batch of TYs that are 8x, and those spindles also contained an insert with warning about damaging the burner with 8x. No prob with 8x.

I just bought some 16x Linkyo dvd-r silver lacquer Taiyo Yuden at Supermedia store : http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yud...l-cake-box.html (I have had a financial setback and they are a bit cheaper than the TYs that I had been getting and the reviews/product stats from supermediastore said they are 1x-16x, so I assumed, "cool".)

They also have the scarry notice on a paper insert in the package that says see www.dvdhs.com to see if these 16x are compatible with my Pioneer 106. Well, that site only lists up to Pioneer 104, and the link to Sony goes to the home page - could not find any info on this old drive at sony.com.

What do you think? I am assuming that any Pioneer dvd burners after 104 would be able to handle 16x. What else can I do, other than use one and see what happens?

Yes; It will work! As you know; You will be limited to 4x burning speed wise.
I would check for any new firmware.

How do you know they will work?

To the OP there will be no write strategy available for new 16x media like this for your burner. If the 8X were working right you should have stuck with them.

Looking for a new burner? Check here.

The reviews also help to determine which media gives the best results.
